  • Long Island, NY:A Two children bit in separate incidents, 4 miles apart.
  • Fernandina Beach, FL: Rare double shark attack minutes apart.
  • San Clemente, CA: Great white spotted feeding on dead whale.

OK, Deep Breath…

  • Last year in the US, there were 53 unprovoked, shark attacks, in line with the 5-year average.
  • NONE of the attacks were fatal.
  • Globally, there are 6 deaths/year on average due to unprovoked shark attacks, but conservationists point out about 100M sharks & rays are killed each year by fisheries.
