#OTD in 1923 Bob Barker was born. The 95-year-old, game show icon spent 35 of those years hosting "The Price is Right," the longest running game show in American TV history. An avid animal activist, Barker has used his success to support animal rights groups.

    • Barker went to college on a basketball scholarship and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in economics.
    • Served in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot during World War II.
    • Married his high school sweetheart, Dorthy Jo. The two never had any children.
    • His first TV hosting gig was an 18-year run on another game show “Truth or Consequences.”
    • He started “Price is Right in September of 1972 which is now the longest continuously running game show in North American television history.
    • Became a vegetarian in 1979 and when his wife died in 1981, Barker became an animal activist with his signature sign-off, “Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered.”
    • In 1987, he made waves by not coloring his hair, allowing it to go gray. A rare move for a TV host, but others would follow like Alex Trebek and Monty Hall.
    • Over the years, he has donated tens of millions of dollars to animal groups and vowing to “die broke” by giving away all of his money to animal charities.
