4th dose Covid vaccination status Israel

4th dose Covid vaccination status Israel

Despite increased antibody levels, the fourth vaccine only offers a partial defense against the virus.

Dr. Gili Regev-Yochay, director of Sheba Hospital’s infection disease unit, on a clinical trial of vaccinating healthcare workers with a 4th dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Dr. Regev-Yochay went on to say: “The vaccines, which were more effective against previous variants, offer less protection versus omicron.”
  • Over 270 workers received a fourth dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
  • All workers had *already* received 3 doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.
  • The fourth dose was roughly divided between Pfizer and Moderna brands.
  • The vaccine showed higher antibody levels (which some doctors argue is important, as it raised previously-waning antibody levels) but the vaccine did not offer higher protection against infection/spread of the virus itself.
  • Why This Matters: The ideal number of Covid-19 vaccine doses remains an ongoing, moving target. While a "booster" shot is being required in some countries to be considered fully vaccinated, this raises a question about whether "more" is actually better.
