What an amazing week! I’m so proud of Sam. He completed the youngest rope ascent of ElCap! In a few years he might be back breaking more records.

Joe Baker, the father of an 8-year-old who recently completed a “rope ascent” of El Capitan, a 3,000-foot granite rock in Yosemite National Park.

Why It Matters: The father-son duo trained for 18 months so that Sam, an 8-year-old, could become the youngest person to “rope ascent” El Capitan – the largest exposed granite face in the world (located in California). The duo, alongside two accompanying guides, spent four days getting to the top, sleeping in their harness on the side of the cliff each night.
