"Children need hope. You, little insignificant caterpillar, can grow up into a beautiful butterfly and fly into the world with your talent."
91-yr-old author & illustrator Eric Carle passed away this week. Carle’s love of color and nature was sparked by his father during his early childhood in upstate New York – a contrast to “the long, dark time of growing up in wartime Germany” after his immigrant parents moved the family home during WWII. Carle illustrated 70+ children’s books, including his most famous work, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. More than 55 million copies of the 1969 classic have sold around the world.
