Why It Matters: Of President Trump’s 22 cabinet picks, 18 have been confirmed. Some prominent positions are still awaiting final confirmation.
- Linda McMahon – Secretary of the Department of Education. A Senate committee approved McMahon on Thursday, and she will now move forward to a final vote in the full Senate.
- Lori Chavez-DeRemer – Labor Secretary. Chavez-DeRemer faced questions during a Senate hearing on Wednesday. She awaits a committee vote, which should happen next week. If approved by the committee, she will face a full Senate vote.
- Elise Stefanik – U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik testified at a hearing last month and cleared a committee vote. However, any further progress on her confirmation has been delayed, reportedly since she currently serves in the House, which currently has a narrow Republican majority.
- Jamieson Greer – U.S. Trade Representative. Greer was approved by a Senate committee on Wednesday, and a final vote will now go to the full Senate.
Something To Note: Kash Patel – FBI Director. This is not a cabinet position but still appointed by the president and must be confirmed by the Senate. On Thursday afternoon, the Senate voted 51-49 to confirm Patel, with two Republican senators voting no.
