It’s beginning to look a lot like cosmos.

NASA on a new image of a ‘Christmas Tree Cluster’ observed by the world’s most powerful X-ray telescope – Chandra X.

Why It Matters: The image shows us a picture of “young” stars 1 – 5 million years old.

NASA took some liberties with the arrangement – the green color represents the nebula (space dust) around the stars, the blinking animation reflects the location of “young stars,” and NASA moved the orientation of the entire group to look like a tree. However, the image gives us some insight into the happenings in the space we share in the Milky Way Galaxy – albeit these young stars are approximately 2500 light years away!
