I can confirm at this time that the FBI is now leading the investigation and is investigating this as an act of targeted violence.
FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge, Reuben Coleman, in a Sunday press conference about the shooting at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
What Happened: On Sunday around 10:30 a.m., a gunman rammed his vehicle into the church building before opening fire on those inside and setting the building on fire. At least four people were killed and eight others are hospitalized due to sustained injuries. The suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with responding officers. Investigators are still searching the wreckage of the church and caution they may discover more victims.
Context: The shooting came just hours after news that President Russell M. Nelson, the prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, had passed away Saturday night at the age of 101. He was the oldest living president for the church.
