We thought we had a good operating model but a bad name; we thought Bed Bath & Beyond had a great name but a bad operating model.
Overstock Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Johnson on the online retailer’s rebranding with Bed Bath & Beyond.
What to Know: Overstock, an online company which sells primarily furniture, acquired Bed Bath & Beyond’s intellectual property after the store filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. The two companies have now rebranded under one name, Bed Bath & Beyond, meaning that customers searching for either Overstock or Bed Bath & Beyond will end up on the same webpage. The rebranding comes amid increased competition from homeware competitors, like Amazon, Target and Walmart.
Worth Noting: Bed Bath & Beyond closed all of their brick-and-mortar stores after filing for bankruptcy and will therefore be solely online as part of merging with Overstock. (And in case you were wondering: the classic 20% blue coupons that Bed Bath & Beyond was known for will not be offered, though there will be similar promotions).
Overstock is now Bed Bath & Beyond. Here’s what you need to know.
