Beyoncé Makes History At No. 1 On Billboard Country Music Chart

The amount of airplay it had in its first week is quite astonishing and unprecedented.

Assistant professor at the University of Ottawa Jada Watson, who studies popularity charts and radio airplay, regarding Beyoncé becoming the first-ever Black woman to top the Billboard country music chart.

Why It Matters: Beyoncé recently dropped two country-inspired songs, with “Texas Hold ‘Em” at the No. 1 spot and “16 Carriages” currently at No. 9. She is also the first woman to top both Billboard’s country music chart and the R&B/hip-hop chart. The only other artists to top both charts are Morgan Wallen, Justin Bieber, Ray Charles and Billy Ray Cyrus.
