Biden admin warns of cyber attacks

March 22, 2022

My administration is reiterating those warnings based on evolving intelligence that the Russian Government is exploring options for potential cyberattacks.

President Biden in a statement released on Monday.
  • The Biden administration has announced the possibility of cyberattacks from the Russian government.
  • In a recent White House briefing with more than 100 U.S. companies, business leaders were advised to increase security measures such as ensuring backups and enabling multifactor authentication.
  • Something To Consider: The government does not have full agency over cybersecurity. The White House states that “most of America’s critical infrastructure is owned and operated by the private sector,” which means that “critical infrastructure owners and operators must accelerate efforts to lock their digital doors.” Examples of critical infrastructure that are in the private sector: Oil/energy companies and hospital systems.

Why It Matters: The White House cited cyberattacks as being “part of Russia’s playbook.” Ukrainian officials have reported Russian cyberactivity on government websites and bank interfaces.
