Biden Update on Afghanistan

I cannot promise what the final outcome will be … that it will be without risk of loss.

Pres. Biden in an update on Afghanistan, calling the evacuation underway one the of the largest air lifts in history..
  • "We’ve already evacuated more than 18,000 people since July and approximately 13,000 since our military airlift began on August the 14th."
  • The President spoke for roughly 30 minutes – with prepared remarks and then took questions from the press.
  • He confirmed communications with the Taliban and said thus far, any issues regarding American evacuees has been resolved.
  • The President said the G-7 (an organization of the world's most prominent democracies) will meet next week to discuss the way forward.

Why This Matters: The President last addressed the nation on Monday and promised more updates in coming days. He emphasized the danger and complexity of the evacuation mission, and asked the American people to join in prayer for the safety of the American soldiers serving on the ground.
