… the government will no longer mandate the wearing of face masks anywhere.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson on ending certain government protocols in England.
- The British prime minister announced that, based on data and the public’s adherence to strict policies, the government will pull back some of the stricter policies.
- This includes not requiring a vaccine certification for certain activities, not requiring people to work from home, and no mask requirements (in some cases, businesses can make their own decisions about where their employees may work or may require certifications). The government will still recommend masking in crowded areas, but the prime minister says that the government “will trust the British people.”
- Why This Matters: While England pulls back certain COVID-19 policies, other countries are ramping them up – such as France requiring proof of 3 vaccine shots, and Austria poised to make vaccines mandatory for all adults.
