Break-Dancing To Debut At 2024 Paris Olympics

Jeffrey Louis (B-Boy Jeffro), one of the potential break-dancers that will compete on the U.S. Olympic team this summer in Paris. Two American spots have been filled while two other spots remain.

Why It Matters: Break-dancing, also known as breaking, has never been part of the Olympic Games until this year’s gathering in Paris. The unique dance moves, set to music, received high viewership when featured in the 2018 Youth Olympics in Argentina, encouraging officials to add it to the 2024 lineup. The hope is that younger people will be inspired to break-dance, too.

Other newer Olympic sports? Surfing, sport climbing and skateboarding debuted at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
