Caitlin Clark Breaks NCAA Women’s Scoring Record

February 16, 2024

I’m so thankful every single day, because I’m playing in front of 15,000 people. I get to do it with my best friends. I get to play the game that I absolutely love more than anything.

University of Iowa basketball player Caitlin Clark after breaking the NCAA women’s scoring record on Thursday night.

Why It Matters: Clark scored 49 points during Thursday’s game against against Michigan, giving her a total of 3,569 points during her NCAA career and further solidifying herself as one of the best-ever female basketball players. The 22-year-old senior broke the current NCAA women’s basketball record for total points scored with several weeks left in the season.

Just a note: Some have pointed to previous women college basketball players recording higher point totals than Clark. But they played before the NCAA included women’s basketball so the records fell outside the league.
