Their sacrifice for our country and its allies will never be forgotten …

Congresswoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) who sponsored a bill to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the 13 servicemembers killed in Afghanistan during the U.S. withdrawal.
  • The bill passed the House with more than 320 co-sponsors – an overwhelming show of bipartisan support.
  • The legislation reads: “The American servicemembers went above and beyond the call of duty to protect citizens of the United States and our allies to ensure they are brought to safety in an extremely dangerous situation as the Taliban regained control over Afghanistan.”
  • The bill heads to the Senate for final passage.
  • Why It Matters: The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian award in America. Past awards have gone to President George Washington, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Walt Disney and the Native American Code Talkers.
