A significant winter storm will develop across the High Plains Tuesday and then swing across the Central Plains and Upper Midwest through Thursday. Heavy snow rates and strong winds will create blizzard conditions across portions of this region!

The National Weather Service warning of continued extreme weather in a post via X on Monday.

Why It Matters: Another weather system is moving from the Rockies into the Plains in the next few days, according to the National Weather Service. From Tuesday to Wednesday, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, southern Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan could see heavy snow and strong winds, creating dangerous conditions. Meanwhile, areas farther south in the Plains will have dry air, increasing the risk of wildfires. The National Weather Service posted on X saying, “Today and Tomorrow (March 17-18) will once again bring critical fire weather conditions due to strong winds, dry air, and brown vegetation across numerous states in the Central and Southern Plains.”

What To Know: A powerful storm system unleashed tornadoes, wildfires and dust storms across the central and eastern U.S., killing at least 39 people and destroying hundreds of structures and homes. The storm, which began Friday, earned a rare “high risk” designation.
