Big Picture: Wednesday night’s debate marked the final primary debate of the year, and comes just more than a month away from the first voting for the Republican presidential nomination in Iowa. At the conclusion of the two-hour debate, the candidates on stage responded to Johnson sharing past presidents they would take inspiration from if elected to the White House; here are their responses (click on the links to learn more about each president referenced):
- Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie chose 40th president of the United States, Ronald Reagan, who served in office from 1981-1989.
- Fmr. South Carolina Gov. and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley gave two president’s names: First U.S. President George Washington, whose terms spanned from 1789-1797, and 16th U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, who served from 1861-1865.
- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis chose 30th U.S. President Calvin Coolidge, who served from 1923-1929.
- Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy chose the third president of the U.S., Thomas Jefferson, who served from 1801-1809.
