I just knew I wanted to go a fast time and now here I am — a world-record holder.

U.S. swimmer Gretchen Walsh after setting a world record in the women’s 100-meter butterfly race on Saturday. She completed the race in 55.18 seconds at the U.S. Olympic semifinal swimming trials.

Why It Matters: Walsh, 21, is a major athlete to watch and qualified for the U.S. swim team over the weekend. Also worth noting? The weekend’s Olympic trials ended up being the largest swim meet in history as employees transformed the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis (home to the NFL Colts team) into a venue capable of keeping up with the growing interest in U.S. swimming.
