Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, commenting on Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza City. Israel claims that taking over Gaza City is necessary to root out terrorist group Hamas.

Why It Matters: Negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage release have stalled, and chances for future talks appear to diminish as Israel intensifies its military strikes in Gaza City. Israel warned 1 million Palestinians in Gaza City to evacuate and estimates about 300,000 left the area.
