Israeli leader visits UAE

Israeli leader visits UAE

I am very excited to be here on behalf of my people (on the) first official visit of an Israeli leader here.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on visiting the United Arab Emirates.
  • Prime Minister Bennett met with the UAE leader, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan.
  • Previously, the UAE (a Muslim nation) and Israel (a Jewish state) did not have diplomatic ties. This changed during the final months of the Trump administration, when the Abraham Accords opened up diplomatic relations between countries in the Middle East.

Why This Matters: This is the first meeting of its kind between the two countries – which may have broad implications culturally, economically, and in foreign policy and national security. The timing of this historic meeting is widely seen as an affront against Iran – as concern rises about Iran attaining nuclear weapons.
