Even if you get all the unemployed workers back, it still leaves a gap. We need to attract people back into the workforce.

CEO Karen Fichuk, staffing company Randstad North America, on America’s job market. A new jobs report shows more than 400,000 jobs created in March and an unemployment rate of 3.6%.

• The economy added 431,000 jobs last month — below expectations of 490,000. However, the previous month’s data was revised to be higher than reported.
• The unemployment rate dropped to 3.6%.
• Jobs gains in hospitality, retail, and construction: “Construction jobs rose by 19,000 and have now returned to their pre-pandemic level.”
• Why It Matters: America has added more than 400,000 jobs per month for the last 11 months, but America’s workforce remains smaller than before the pandemic — leaving many businesses looking for workers. Reasons for this? Some suggest a combination of lingering concerns about the pandemic and the need for childcare.
