Kansas Attorney General Sues Pfizer

June 18, 2024

Pfizer made multiple misleading statements to deceive the public about its vaccine at a time when Americans needed the truth.

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach (R) on why he decided to file a lawsuit against the pharmaceutical company for its COVID-19 vaccine.

Why It Matters: This is the second time a state has filed suit against Pfizer, alleging the company misled the public over its COVID vaccine, violating the state’s consumer protection laws. The state of Texas filed a similar lawsuit back in November. Pfizer argues both lawsuits have no merit, responding to Kansas’ recent claims: “The representations made by Pfizer about its COVID-19 vaccine have been accurate and science-based.”

Context: In general, the law protects vaccine makers from personal injury lawsuits, and vaccine makers during COVID were afforded additional protections protecting them from legal repercussions. The success of *states* suing these drug makers based on state laws remains TBD.
