These changes position us for sustainable growth and will help us better serve our customers, employees, franchisees and shareholders.

Yum! Brands CEO David Gibbs on the decision to move the U.S. headquarters of KFC, formerly Kentucky Fried Chicken, from Louisville, Kentucky, to Plano, Texas.

Why It Matters: CEO David Gibbs said moving KFC’s headquarters to Texas and “bringing more of our people together on a consistent basis will maximize our unrivaled culture and talent.” Despite the relocation, KFC will maintain a presence in Louisville, including plans for a flagship restaurant. Yum! is also donating $1 million to the University of Louisville’s College of Business to fund scholarships.

What This Means:

  • About 100 employees will relocate over the next six months, with another 90 remote workers required to move within 18 months.

However, not all are happy with the move. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said, “I am disappointed by this decision and believe the company’s founder would be, too.” (AP)

Did You Know? While the original Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant was in Corbin, Kentucky, the first franchise location opened in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1952.
