  • Mayah Zamora was "critically injured" in the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas that killed 19 students and two teachers.
  • Why It Matters: The 10-year-old survivor exited the hospital on Friday while being cheered on by hospital staff. She was the final victim from the shooting to be discharged from the hospital — after more than two months in recovery.
  • Updates on Uvalde: A Texas House committee report was released in mid-July and "faulted school officials for security lapses" (San Antonio Express-News). The report stated that “with hindsight we can say that Robb Elementary did not adequately prepare for the risk of an armed intruder on campus."
  • Robb Elementary will not reopen this year. The district plans to demolish and rebuild the school.
