It’s been a rough season of people saying that I can’t, that I’m too old, that I’m not good enough anymore. I think I proved everyone wrong.

Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn, after finishing second in the World Cup super-G skiing competition on Sunday, becoming the oldest female athlete, at 40, to step onto the winner’s podium.

Why It Matters: Vonn came out of a five-year retirement this season driven by a successful partial-knee replacement surgery and the desire to compete again. Her next goal? Make the U.S.A. ski team for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy (fun fact: it would be her fifth Olympic Games).
