We are praying to God that this cyclone doesn’t cause too much damage here.

Indian boat owner and businessman Adam Karim Dhobi, ahead of Cyclone Biparjoy. The major cyclone – with winds equal to a category 1 hurricane – is expected to make landfall in the coastal regions of India and Pakistan on Thursday.

Why It Matters: Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to impact densely populated areas in India and Pakistan, causing nearly 80,000 people to evacuate or voluntarily move away from areas expecting to be hit by the cyclone. As the cyclone has been approaching landfall in recent days, it has slightly weakened, however, it has already caused significant rain and wind. The Weather Channel explains, "Biparjoy has been one of the longest-lasting cyclones to impact India in recent decades."

Something To Consider: Cyclone Biparjoy is hitting less than a year after a record monsoon caused widespread destruction in Pakistan, causing nearly 1,600 deaths. Many areas being impacted by the cyclone are still recovering from this monsoon.
