… when you have these special moments … seeing my brother and (sister-in-law) Kristi and my mom (and coach, Eileen) in the finish today, that’s what makes it memorable.

Skier Mikaela Shiffrin after setting the all-time World Cup skiing record over the weekend in Sweden.

Why It Matters: Shiffrin, who turns 28 years old today, has won 87 World Cups, making her “the most successful ski racer in Alpine World Cup history.” After her 87th win on Saturday, her brother and sister-in-law surprised her at the awards ceremony, a moment which she said helped her realize what the accomplishment meant to her.
