Kerr County: 161 Remain Missing following Texas Floods
Our city of Kerrville and Kerr County leadership are committed to a transparent and full review of processes and protocols. This special session is going to be a starting point for that work, but our entire focus since day one has been on rescue and reunification.
Kerrville Police spokesperson Sgt. Jonathan Lamb, regarding a special legislative session taking place later this month to address the Texas emergency alert system. During the latest press briefing, Sgt. Lamb reported Kerr County has 96 confirmed deaths (60 adults and 36 children) and 161 people missing (including five campers and one counselor). Search and recovery efforts include over 2,100 first responders from state, local and federal agencies. Ten states have sent assistance, with help from two more states en route.

Senior portfolio manager at Dakota Wealth in New York, Robert Pavlik, commenting on chipmaking company Nvidia becoming the first company to surpass $4 trillion in market value for a brief time on Wednesday. The company has soared in recent years, with tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon relying on the high-powered chips to fuel their AI systems. Wednesday’s market cap shows Nvidia continues to be the world’s most valuable company, surpassing both Microsoft and Apple.

X CEO Steps Down after Two Years in the Position
After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of 𝕏.
X CEO Linda Yaccarino, announcing on Wednesday her departure. Yaccarino joined X in 2023 and worked to grow advertisers on the platform; the company’s ad revenue is expected to grow for the first time since Elon Musk bought the platform in 2022. Yaccarino did not provide a specific reason for her decision, but the news came a day after the platform’s AI chatbot, Grok, made antisemitic comments and referenced Hitler. The chatbot, built by Musk’s company xAI, merged with X in March.

Over Two Dozen Workers in LA Rescued after Tunnel Collapse
I know when we raced down here, I was so concerned that we were going to find tragedy. Instead, what we found was victory.
LA Mayor Karen Bass after 31 industrial workers were rescued from a tunnel Wednesday night that was under construction as part of a city wastewater project. The 18-foot-wide tunnel collapsed about 5 to 6 miles south of the entrance. The rescue operation included over 100 first responders and took about an hour. All 31 workers were medically evaluated, with no injuries reported.
