We are doing everything to avoid this. But let’s be frank, our enemies are doing everything for the city to be without heat, without electricity, without water supply, in general, so we all die.

Kyiv, Ukraine mayor, Vitali Klitschko, warning residents to prepare for winter as Russia continues to strike Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. About 4.5 million people across Ukraine were without electricity, as of Sunday.

Why It Matters: Russia has been targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure – such as power plants – for the past month, resulting in ongoing power shortages and rolling blackouts across Ukraine. Ukrainian officials are working to provide power and heating sources for the nation as temperatures drop. Kyiv, the nation's capital with about 3 million residents, averages temperatures in the low 30s and 20s (Farenheit) during December.
