NY DA’s Remarks Post-Fmr. Pres. Trump’s Guilty Verdict

May 31, 2024

Today, we have the most important voice of all and that’s the voice of the jurors, they have spoken.

New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg in a press conference after former United States President Donald Trump became the first former president convicted of a crime. A 12-person jury unanimously convicted the former president of 34 state felony counts.

Big Picture: Thursday’s verdict arrives about a year after Bragg announced the indictment of President Trump, who faced 34 state felony counts related to falsifying business records. The first of four criminal cases, this case, often referred to as Pres. Trump’s “hush money” trial, marks the first to go to trial and reach a verdict while the former president seeks reelection to the White House.

The judge overseeing the case will decide what, if any, sentence Pres. Trump receives. Sentencing will occur on July 11th. Pres. Trump will likely appeal the decision, and the appellate process could last for years.

The former president still faces three other criminal cases.
