Lyons Magnus LLC … announced that it is voluntarily recalling nutritional and beverage products due to the potential for microbial contamination …
California-based food and drink manufacturer Lyons Magnus in a statement announcing the voluntary recall of 53 specialty drinks — including Oatly’s Oat-Milk Barista Edition.
Why It Matters: After products did not meet specific commercial sterility benchmarks during testing, Lyons Magnus — a manufacturer that works with brands including Oatly and Aloha — voluntarily recalled more than 50 specialty drink products out of concern for potential contamination. The company advises consumers to check the lot numbers/”best by” dates on their products; if they have the specific products affected by the recall, they should either throw them out or return them and seek a refund.
- The Concern: The products were recalled due to concern for potential microbial contamination which could lead to infection — including from an organism (Cronobacter sakazakii) which can, though rarely, cause symptoms such as vomiting, fever and urinary tract infection. Immunocompromised individuals (who may rely on certain nutritional beverages for dietary needs) are also potentially “more susceptible to infection.”
- Some recalled products include Oatly’s Oat-Milk Barista Edition, Premier Protein Shakes, Stumptown Cold Brew Coffee with Oat Milk, Glucerna Original club packs, and Aloha plant-based protein drinks. - What Else To Know: This recall does *not* include products made for infants. As of last Thursday (July 28, 2022), there had been no complaints or illnesses reported related to the recalled products.
