A browser built with ChatGPT takes us closer to a true super-assistant that understands your world and helps you achieve your goals.

OpenAI in a press release Tuesday, announcing the new Atlas web browser, which integrates ChatGPT. Optional features include “browser memories” —   allowing Atlas to remember and recall context from previous websites — and “agent mode,” which can research, analyze, and perform tasks, like planning a dinner party.

Why It Matters: Use of OpenAI and ChatGPT continues to grow, with estimates of 700 million weekly users. Atlas, currently available on macOS and coming soon to Windows, iOS and Android, aims to compete with Google Chrome — the market’s leading browser, declared an illegal monopoly in a 2024 court case but not forced into a sale.

Context: Other companies are also integrating AI into web browsing. Google defaults to Gemini answers as the first search result, and Perplexity AI recently launched a free version of its Comet browser.
