I really wanted the cake to scream America …
Jenna D’Amico, owner of Sweets by Jenna in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, on her cake which won a local Election Day-inspired baking competition.
What does a nonpartisan, politically-inspired champion cake taste like? “Almond raspberry,” says D’Amico, owner of Sweets by Jenna, who won a baking contest at The Old State House (a registered National Landmark in Connecticut) on Saturday.
- Here are D’Amico’s comments to SmartHER News on her victory, which came the weekend before the U.S. midterm elections: “I wanted to keep the cake non-partisan and bring fun and bright elements into the design to get people excited about the voting season. I really wanted the cake to scream America so I did stars, stripes, the patriotic banners, and fun sprinkles and glitter! I chose to do a sugar cookie on top with an edible image of the ‘I voted’ sticker because it’s very iconic as well …”
