There’s the right to protest but not the right to cause chaos.

U.S. President Joe Biden in a live address from the White House on May 2, 2024 on the ongoing campus protests across college campuses nationwide.

Why It Matters: Law enforcement intervened at some of the nation’s top universities (for example: Columbia University and UCLA) to evict protesters who have become more destructive and violent in recent days.

President Biden affirmed his dedication to free speech, condemned antisemitism and an anti-Islamic discrimination, and also said the recent protests have not changed his policies towards the region (Israel, Gaza).
