“We’re opening up pathways to good-paying careers, lifetimes of being involved in the work of making our communities more fair, more sustainable, more resilient.”
Ali Zaidi, President Joe Biden’s climate policy adviser said after the President announced a new climate jobs training program on Wednesday.
The Big Picture: On Wednesday, President Biden announced a climate jobs training program entitled the American Climate Corps. Modeled after the New Deal, the White House explained, “In its first year, the American Climate Corps will put more than 20,000 young people on career pathways in the growing fields of clean energy, conservation and climate resilience.”
The positions will be paid, and most will not require previous experience. Further details about the program’s budget and source of funds are forthcoming.
Issued through an executive order, the program is said to be modeled after the 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps created by President Franklin Roosevelt as a component of the New Deal.
