President Trump Announces Move of U.S. Space Command HQ to Alabama

I am thrilled to report that the U.S. Space Command headquarters will move to the beautiful locale of a place called Huntsville, Alabama — forever to be known, from this point forward, as ROCKET CITY. 

President Trump announcing Tuesday afternoon the relocation of U.S. Space Command headquarters from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Huntsville, Alabama. 

Why It Matters: The move brings U.S. Space Command to Redstone Arsenal – a U.S. Army installation in Huntsville, Alabama, that serves as the Army’s hub for missile and rocket programs. “Redstone Arsenal is already home to a significant military presence and is expected to play a “key role” in Trump’s desire for a Golden Dome missile defense program,” Axios reports. According to an analysis conducted in May by the Government Accountability Office, the move would save $426 million over 15 years. 

The Backstory: After President Trump reestablished the U.S. Space Command in 2018 during his first term, he announced Huntsville as his preferred choice for its headquarters. In 2023, President Biden decided to make the military branch’s temporary headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado, permanent.  

What Others Are Saying: Both Democratic and Republican Colorado lawmakers objected, arguing the move would weaken both national security and the local economy. In a joint statement, they pledged to fight it: “Colorado Springs is the appropriate home for U.S. Space Command, and we will take the necessary action to keep it there.”
