This is a Joe Biden invasion.

Former United States President Donald Trump speaking in Eagle Pass, Texas on Thursday.

Why It Matters: Both fmr. Pres. Trump and Pres. Joe Biden visited the Southwest border on Thursday as encounters have reached historic levels, making the border security and immigration already lightening rod issues for the 2024 election cycle.

Pres. Trump remarks included criticizing the Biden administration’s handling of the border. He also praised TX Governor Greg Abbott’s handling of the state’s border, which has led to disputes between the federal government and the state regarding “which of them has the authority to patrol the border” (The Wall Street Journal).

Pres. Trump also discussed the death of 22-year-old Laken Riley, who was killed while jogging at the University of Georgia campus; the suspect charged for her murder is not a U.S. citizen, and came to the U.S. from Venezuela, according to authorities. Pres. Trump said he spoke to Riley’s parents, who are “devastated … beyond belief.”
