Presidential Debate Scheduled for Thursday 9PM EDT

June 27, 2024

Their podium positions will be determined by a coin flip.

An interesting detail courtesy of CNN, the host of tonight’s scheduled presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, the two top candidates in 2024. President Biden won the coin flip and chose his podium position. Former President Trump will have the last closing statement.

Why It Matters: CNN will host the first face-off between the two top presidential candidates in 2024, signaling a break from decades of tradition. Since 1988, the nonpartisan, nonprofit Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) has sponsored and produced debates for presidential and vice-presidential candidates in order to educate the public. In recent weeks, the Biden administration said they will no longer work with the CPD for a variety of reasons (including calling them outdated); the sitting commissioner of the CPD calls these claims both false and personal.

How to Watch: Details HERE. AND! Stay tuned ~ Jenna will also provide debate takeaways for you after the event.

FYI: The candidates already agreed to have their microphones muted when it’s not their turn to speak.

More Context: We cannot ignore the timing of this debate, as it is just weeks before former President Trump faces sentencing in the “hush money” case out of New York, and perhaps hours before or after a monumental Supreme Court decision on the immunity of the U.S. presidency. President Biden, on the other hand, recently participated in the G7 and announced some big policy changes on immigration, and his behavior has raised questions about his mental and physical health. Both sides have plenty to contend with – minus a major debate.
