"As our country gathers for the holidays, traditions may vary, but our shared American values — a belief in possibility, optimism, and unity — endure each season."

On Monday, First Lady Jill Biden unveiled her theme for the White House Christmas decorations: "We the People." The decorations were completed by more than 150 volunteers, and "include more than 83,000 twinkling lights on trees, garlands, wreaths and other displays" (The Associated Press). The tradition of announcing a theme for the White House's official Christmas tree began with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, who chose a "Nutcracker Suite" theme in 1961.
