"Each day is a new beginning, I know that the only way to live my life is to try to do what is right, to take the long view, to give of my best in all that the day brings, and to put my trust in God."
On this day 96 years ago, Queen Elizabeth II — the longest reigning monarch in British history — was born in London, England. At the time, the princess was not expected to become Queen, but after her uncle gave up the throne and her father was crowned King, she became next in line to the Crown. After her father’s death, she became Queen at age 25 and has since served as the British head of state; she not only continues to carry out her diplomatic and ceremonial duties, but also supports over 600 charities. Her passions include family life (she is a mother, grandmother & great-grandmother!), horses, dogs and even Scottish country dancing.
