FDNY on a developing story in Midtown Manhattan, where concern about structural issues and a potential building collapse prompted evacuations Tuesday in America’s largest city. 

The building, a former high-rise office near Grand Central Station, is currently under construction for conversion into apartments in what’s described as “the largest of its kind in New York City history.” Workers reportedly noticed cracks and a compromised beam on Tuesday morning, which led to the ongoing emergency response.

Trump Arrives in Turkey as NATO Summit Opens  

“The United States remains a proud NATO member…” 

U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker ahead of the 2026 NATO Summit in Turkey, where President Trump arrived Tuesday after recently criticizing European allies and calling their support for the United States “one-sided.” 

The two-day event brings together the largest military alliance in the world to discuss defense spending, military readiness and support for Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung also plan to attend, though neither country belongs to NATO.

Iran Says Nuclear Talks Won’t Resume Under U.S. Threats 

“Negotiations on final Deal will not commence if threats continue.” 


Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi after President Trump said the U.S. would either reach a nuclear agreement with Iran or “finish the job.” The exchange came as British officials reported strikes damaged multiple tankers near the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran also continues a weeklong funeral for former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whom U.S.-Israeli strikes killed in February. U.S.-Iran negotiations remain on pause.

Trump Accounts App Launches Nationwide Aimed at Helping Families Invest for Children 

“The American dream belongs to every child…”

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent after the Department of the Treasury launched the full Trump Accounts app on Saturday, allowing families to open, manage and contribute to investment accounts for children. 

The accounts, created under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, include financial education tools and allow eligible children born between 2025 and 2028 to receive a $1,000 Treasury contribution invested in the stock market. Some financial experts say the accounts may not work for every family, since most family contributions receive no upfront federal tax deduction and withdrawals face taxes and restrictions.

Team USA FIFA World Cup Run Ends with Round of 16 Loss

U.S. men’s national team coach Mauricio Pochettino after Belgium defeated the U.S. 4–1 on Monday, eliminating the Americans from the FIFA World Cup. The loss ended the U.S. bid for its first World Cup quarterfinal appearance since 2002, with Pochettino adding, “We improved a lot. But sometimes you improve little by little, it’s not linear. I’m so proud.”
