U.S. Postal Service Stamp Services Director William Gicker. USPS announced new stamps to be released in 2023 – Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is one of the people honored in the new collection.
Why It Matters: The Postal Service issues about 35 stamps per year. A painting of Justice Ginsburg, who is described by the USPS as “a passionate proponent of equal justice and an icon of American culture,” will be featured on one of the stamps in the 2023 collection. Other individuals to be featured include author Toni Morrison, author Ernest Gaines and Native American Chief Standing Bear.
Did you know? The Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee – which recommends stamp subjects to the postmaster general – receives more than 30,000 suggestions per year.
