“… I do occasionally experiment with editing.”

March 11, 2024

Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.

Catherine, the Princess of Wales, in a post on Monday morning after the Royal Family shared a photo of Princess Kate with her children on Sunday to mark the United Kingdom’s Mother’s Day. Several of the world’s leading news agencies have called into question the photo.

What To Know: Kate has not appeared in public since Christmas, following a nearly two-week hospital stay for a “planned abdominal surgery” for an unknown reason in January. The medical mystery raised alarm about the woman expected to become queen. This weekend’s photo appeared an effort to use a holiday family photo to squash some concern/conspiracy but has instead done just the opposite as The Associated Press retracted the photo, saying “it did not meet its photo standards” and “it appears that the source has manipulated the image.” Since then, Getty, Reuters and AFP have also retracted the photo.

Why It Matters: With King Charles receiving cancer treatment for an unspecified cancer, a mystery around Princess Kate’s condition, doubt raised by Prince Harry’s critique of his own family and allegations of mistreatment of his wife, are we witnessing a serious shift in the English monarchy?
