“An Exhausting Stretch of Busy Weather” From “Arctic Blast”

January 18, 2024

Meteorologists across the country will attest, it’s been an exhausting stretch of busy weather across the Lower 48.

National Weather Service La Crosses (Wisconsin) on the myriad of storms experienced across America this week.

Why It Matters: Nearly 80% of the United States experienced an “arctic blast” of cold temperatures this week, and little relief is in sight.

A few highlights:

The Pacific Northwest: Thousands lost power in Oregon as a winter storm blanketed the Pacific Northwest causing “significant icing” and leading to injury and several deaths.

The Midwest: Another winter storm watch remains in effect for parts of Ohio starting Thursday through Saturday morning.

The Northeast: A new winter storm could impact the nation’s largest city, New York City, on Friday after the city’s first significant snow fall this season earlier this week. Other cities in the region will likely see additional snow, such as D.C. and Boston.

The South: Power outages occurred across the South due to bitterly cold winter weather.
