Russell Vought, Acting Director of Office of Management & Budget (OMB), speaking at a White House briefing, explaining that the OMB believes its permissible for the IRS to issue refund checks during a gov't shutdown and will work to make sure the IRS is properly staffed. During previous shutdowns, refunds were stalled. The typical refund averages around $3,000 and begin going out in late January as Americans start filing their yearly taxes.
"It’s not okay with me for my job to be used as a bargaining chip when people on either side don’t get what they want and they can’t come to an agreement. I just want to work."
Krystle Kirkpatrick, one of approx. 70,000 employees furloughed (temporarily laid-off) by the IRS because of the partial gov't shutdown. She told the Washington Post she's considering donating blood to supplement her family's loss of income.

Vice President Pence, who's working to negotiate with Democrats, speaking about the White House's request for more than $5B in funding for border security. Besides money to the build the border wall, the administration wants funds for additional categories such as $500M+ for additional immigration judges (and staff), $500M+ for extra law enforcement, and $4M+ for thousands of detention beds.

Dabo Swinney, coach of the Clemson Tigers, who defeated #1 ranked Alabama on Monday night to claim the national championship. Some may debate the title of "Best Team Ever", but Clemson's undefeated 15-0 season is one for the history books as the only Division I team with an undefeated season since 1897.
