Big step towards making life multiplanetary was made today.
SpaceX’s CEO and founder, Elon Musk, on a first for space flight as SpaceX launches its Starship rocket and returns its booster to its launch site.
Why It Matters: SpaceX believes this feat will not only lead to more robust space travel, but quicker turnaround between flights. Described by Space.com as the “biggest and most powerful rocket ever,” the Starship is designed to launch spacecraft with humans and supplies into space – as part of NASA’s plan to put Americans back on the moon and beyond, including travel to Mars. SpaceX has “recycled” other rockets before, including the Falcon 9 rocket booster which returns to Earth after launch, but never to the same launch site.
