This does look to be one of the most impactful severe weather events across the Mid-Atlantic that we have had in some time.
National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Strong as severe storms move throughout the eastern U.S.; nearly 30 million people across 10 states were under a tornado watch Monday afternoon.
Why It Matters: The storms are reaching across huge portions of the U.S., already leaving states from Tennessee to New York impacted. The storm intensified on Monday, with more than 1.1 million homes and businesses losing power and thousands of U.S. flights delayed or canceled. At least two people have died. Wind, hail, lightning, tornadoes, etc., have begun to weaken as of Tuesday; however, new weather warnings are emerging in the Plains and the Southeast regions, with more than 5 million people deemed at slight risk for heavy rainfall and damaging winds.
