It is our obligation to seek Donald Trump’s testimony.
January 6th Committee Chair Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) on issuing a subpoena to President Trump to participate in the committee’s investigation.
Why It Matters: The Select Committee on January 6 has issued a subpoena for President Trump for “documents and testimony.”
- Thompson says they realize this is a “serious and extraordinary action” but are pursuing it because “the subject matter at issue is so important to the American people and the stakes are so high to our future and our democracy.”
- The committee says they have enough information to consider criminal referrals (to the Justice Department) for some of the people they requested testimony from and to recommend legislative proposals, but as Congresswoman Liz Cheney said, “We must seek the testimony, under oath, of January 6th’s central player.”
