I am grateful to God for getting us to this day.Rabbi Jeffrey Myers of the Tree of Life Congregation after a jury found a Pennsylvania man guilty for murdering worshippers at the Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018.
Why It Matters: 11 people died in the shooting – the deadliest act of violence against the Jewish community in U.S. history.
- A jury found the Pennsylvania man guilty on dozens of federal charges, including murder and hate crimes. He also shot and injured 7 people, including 5 police officers.
- His conviction makes him eligible for the death penalty.
- A jury will decide his sentence at the end of the month.
*Important clarification – not all those murdered belonged to The Tree of Life Congregation: "All three congregations sharing the building — Dor Hadash, New Light and Tree of Life — lost members in the attack. The victims ranged in age from 54 to 97."
